I've been waiting for this to come out to decide whether it's worth the extra money over something like a Freecom MusicPal or the other internet radios/streamers already out there. Obviously the sound quality on this is substantially better.

The audio quality is top notch the bass is also surprisingly clean and crisp, you can hook it up to an external woofer and it makes for a pleasurable listening experience. A great little table-top player which you will start to love after a few days of using it.I’d always lusted after this gadget, so as soon as I got it, it soon went on the top shelf of my living room and it seemed completely at home. As with other Slim Devices it's clear that the audio components here were not an afterthought or add on as some people suggest. But trust me those are the people that have never ever seen such a device.Even if we for a minute assume that to be the case, I would definitely say that the product is over-priced but it is not. The sound quality is phenomenal, and not just because of the small form-factor - it just plain sounds great even at high volumes without a hitch. I’d suggest most of you to also buy if you don’t already own the NAS i.e. the network-attached storage, this way; one does not have to have a computer running the software.But let this not deter you, all the features of the squeezebox can be enjoyed just the same without one. I am high on the easy access to online radio, podcasts, and tons of other great online programs. If you like me are a great Rhapsody user, you’ll love the fact that you can enjoy them at a touch of a button making it a very attractive feature. At one point in time I also had a Sirius subscription but it turned out to be of no use to me but now I can access that from the boom. Whee! Yay!! What fun!

About the shortcomings- The controls are a bitter counter-intuitive, the big knob could be a tad bit better and they could have had a larger bank to store all the preset lists. Some people also say that it should have an input/ output system but for me its perfectly alright considering it is a table top. Having said that I would love to see the Squeezebox have a integrated dock and the ability to use an external storage device like an USB. So once you have bought it all you have to do is plug in the power cord and follow the easy setup wizard and in no time will you be on your way to ecstasy. So enjoy big, vibrant sound, wake up to your favourite play list as a part of the alarm function and enjoy the readable from across the room features.
